Welcome to Redmond

Biking paradise and home of Microsoft’s headquarters.

Redmond is a diverse city located in King County to the east of Seattle. Known as the Bicycle Capital of the Northwest due to its many biking trails, the annual Derby Days street race, and Washington State’s only velodrome, Redmond is also a major hub of hi-tech firms, including Microsoft’s corporate headquarters, which employs close to 100,000 people. This eclectic city offers great shopping and dining, top-rated public schools, arts and cultural venues, and an abundance of exciting annual events. Redmond’s quiet residential neighborhoods feature large single-family homes in a variety of different styles. This fast-growing city also offers many newly-built properties.

Downtown Redmond has several shopping centers and a wide variety of stores and restaurants. Redmond Town Center is the city’s signature retail hub, with over 110 businesses. This two-level mall centers on an open-air plaza and features retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Cost Plus World Market, Restoration Hardware, and Pier 1 Imports. There is also an IPC movie theater, several gyms and spas, and recognizable fashion brands. Dining options include Haiku Sushi & Seafood Buffet, Matt’s Rotisserie for upscale steak and seafood dining, and family-friendly BJ’s Brewhouse for craft beers and gastropub eats. Other Downtown Redmond businesses include a Trader Joe’s, Woodblock for creative New American cuisine and drinks, and Redmond’s Bar & Grill for gourmet burgers.

The Jerry Baker Velodrome is an outdoor bike racing track that hosts races four nights a week. The velodrome is located at Marymoor Park which, at 640 acres, is by far the largest of Redmond’s 47 public parks. Marymoor Park also has Sammamish River trails, a rock climbing facility, and a 40-acre off-leash dog park. The Concerts at Marymoor is a summer concert series that showcases performances from many big-name acts, such as Cirque du Soleil. Redmond’s biggest biking event is the two-day Derby Days celebration in July. The festivities include a bike race through downtown and a 5K dash on the banks of the Sammamish River. The event also features a carnival, live performances, a beer and wine garden, a pancake breakfast, and a grand fireworks finale. Other events include a Bike Bash in May, the So Bazaar performing arts festival, with dance performances and food trucks over three weekends in August, and the festive Redmond Lights celebration, with live music, art exhibits, and a tree lighting ceremony in December.

Redmond is served by the Lake Washington School District. Top local schools include Rosa Parks and Alcott Elementary schools, Evergreen Middle School, and Tesla STEM High School.
